"So what you're saying is that there's going to be a drawn out hype-filled court battle?"
It might be a court battle or not.One possible outcome is that the 2 groups WCDMA and CDMA2000 are just working on their own solutions and
ignoring the other groups.Ericsson has stated that WCDMA is not infringing on QCOM:s patents. If they really think so and the other in the WCDMA group believes the same they will probably just continue
their work.If no standard can be set in ITU because of IPR disputes 3:rd generation systems will come anyhow.
Another possible outcome is that the WCDMA group gives in to QCOM:s
demands.Takes away all the specifics of WCDMA and goes for QCOM:s IS-95.I think that is a unlikely scenario.NTT-Docomo,Ericsson,Nokia and a lot of other companies has spent years and billions to develop the WCDMA standard. They will not
give that up without a fight.
The third possible outcome is that there will be a courtbattle.
The last outcome is that QCOM:s backs down with some facesaving compromise.

Pls:No reply memos about that QCOM:s IPR:s is also valid for WCDMA.
We have all heard that opinion and I am no patentlawyer.
