Michelle,

In any technological revolution like the internet one that is presently happenning, there is this tension between the loss of business knowledge and adoption of more efficient technology. I acknowledge the importance of this issue and the lack of an easy solution. However, my comments were solely related to technological advancements and I continue to believe in the superiority of the architecture that I had earlier mentioned. I have a professional interest in knowing why you disagree with my statement, but I share your reluctance to delve too deeply into ERP s/w architectural technicalities in the DELL thread. A PM will be much appreciated, however.

As for the small business segment, demand enhances supply and I fully expect similar services to be available in not too distant future at a reasonable cost. I posit that once that happens small business will move away from managing their own technology to renting technology ; while the renters thenselves will standardize on powerful central servers and storage, not a network of smaller cheaper boxes. I expect the h/w and s/w suppliers of these powerful central servers to be the ultimate beneficiaries of the advancements in the e-commerce buiness sector and would prefer that DELL gets it's share as not only a merchant but as a supplier as well.
