IMO, the number of new PCs that can be sold to low income people is reaching a threshold. Approx 20% of families could'nt afford to pay to be on the net even if they got 1 for free. No doubt, higher income families will have 2 or even more PCs at these low prices. The big question is can the box makers remain profitable at these low prices & will the chip makers be placing many new orders with AMAT. IMO, no & no. The U.S. now has a trade deficit in PCs.

G, thanks for the $399 PC news. i even heard an ISP ad today from radio that says free PC for internet connection(i guess one has to pay back for long run). it's interesting to see how HDD and DRAM guys to make money if we get a sub$500 PC boom.
