Personally I like the Sony monitors (and I even have an Hitachi).
Sony is discontinuing the 400PS (19")...so there are some deals out there. The new 420 PS is only 15" deep if that matters.
As far as sound...this is an area I'm good at. My home computer runs through an Onkyo dual monoblock amp into a pair of Eosone RF200 speakers and a Velodyne sub. You can do a lot better than Cambridge soundworks.
One of the best sounding cards is the Ensoniq audio PCi for the money but I'd probably get the new sound blaster live with the digital in/out if I was getting a new one for games. Your probably not into high end recording or you can spend up to a grand for a high end sound card.
