nihil, I read the New American Standard because it is a literal translation done by the Lockman foundation. The Fourfold aim of the Lockman Foundation. 1. These publications shall be true to the original hebrew and greek. 2. They shall be grammatically correct. 3. They shall be understandable to the masses. 4. They shall give the Lord Jesus Christ His proper place, the place which the Word gives Him; therefore, no work shall ever be personalized. Other translations have different aims, like trying to translate the meaning as the New International Version or Living Bible does. The NIV and NAS have very little differences, the Living Bible a little more. The Living bible is a little more wordy. But it's only phraseology we are talking about. The same with the King James. All the truths are the same, just a matter of phraseology. But then we can get into the "cult" bibles like the book of mormon, metropolitan community church, jehovah's witnesses to name a few. They have tampered with the basic truths of the bible and altered the Gospel of Jesus Christ. They are preaching the "different Jesus" that Paul warned us about. A different gospel. I would have to look into the two Mary's. God punished Ananias and Sapphira for lying in the way that they did. It was a proof to the church at the time. It states "why do you test the Holy Spirit". As long as they told the truth they could keep half the money as they had, the problem was they were lying to God. Jesus spoke and it came to pass. That is the power of His spoken word. Even to kill a tree. If He spoke and the universe came into being, then He can shrivel a tree. Bob
