Brian, slotted boards are still at a premium over socketed ones and so Intel is forced to cut the price to $90 to attempt to level the field. I suspect that the board/cpu combination is very similar in price for AMD/Intel for same speeds.

Remember also that Intel is moving to a socket [doh!] for the Celeron instead of Slot 1. I believe Cyrix has accused Intel of dumping. There was an article on the register or maybe news.com. I'm a little too lazy this morning to post the url.
