From PCcomputing.com Woody's Workshop : Internet Speed Tricks E-Z REGISTRY: Faster Surfing We can't all have cable modems for fast surfing, but deep in the Registry are two settings that speed up your Web browsing over a standard modem. Step 1 Make a backup of the Registry, then from the Start menu choose Run and type regedit. Find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\Class\NetTrans. Below that you'll find a numbered key for each network protocol installed. Find each key that has a DriverDesc value of TCP/IP. Step 2 In that key choose Edit, New, String Value, and make a new value called MaxMTU (in NT4 use MTU). The default is 1,500; double-click on the new value and enter a value setting. A setting from 576 to 1,024 (the Internet standard) typically speeds up browsing. Start with 576 first. If you're not happy with the speed, then try 1,024. Repeat this step for any other numbered keys that have the TCP/IP value. Step 3 Find the key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\VxD\MSTCP\ DefaultRcvWindow (add the value if necessary). Try a setting of 2,144. If it doesn't improve speed, return to the default values or remove the keys. Best Regards KEITH
