The number of dot triads on TV tube
and the image resolution generated by
a video card are independent quantities
and have no relationship (except for
overall perception of image quality).
There is no cooperation between any
drivers. To see the point, try to
change the visible monitor area using
monitor controls. While the card output
remains the same pixel-wise, the
image size will change relative to the
fixed tube grill.
