RE: What is Ballard?

"Ballard makes emission-free proton-exchange membrane fuel cells as a quiet, efficient alternative to internal combustion engines. The thin, floor-tile-sized cells are stacked and generate electricity by combining hydrogen-rich fuel (gasoline or methanol, among others) with oxygen. Ballard's technologies are also used in buses (the Chicago Transit Authority uses them) and in 250-kilowatt stationary fuel cell power plants. The company has supply contracts with Nissan and DaimlerChrysler and is developing, through joint ventures, fuel cells for automaker DaimlerChrysler (a 20% shareholder) and Ford (15%)."
