American Taps Speech

American Airlines is using speech-recognition technology from Nuance Communications and Periphonics Corp. to let customers access its automated flight information system by phone. Initially, about 10% of all Dial-AA-Flight callers will have access to the speech-recognition system; it will be extended to all callers in a few weeks. Nuance is also working with Edify Corp. to create a single system that businesses can use to create self-service applications that consumers can access using speech recognition or the Web.

John, I would agree that PERI is a likely takeover candidate and there are numerous possible suitors. PERI can compliment a lot of different businesses and the possibilities are intriguing. With its current market cap and earnings in the plus side it is a no-brainer. Even at 11 and change it is cheap compared to the companies who might buy it. I was originally attracted to PERI because I thought it was a bargain. I've had other stocks like CHPS and ALRN bought out by larger players. The only wrench in the works would be an earnings disappointment Thursday.

Best Wishes,

Timoteo
