Moore's law applies to the CPU chips. However, improvements in batteries, power consumption and screens are also now arriving quickly, speeding product evolution in laptops. These components contribute a great deal to laptop cost, so these savings drive down total price quickly. This high rate of change in component costs is likely to continue for a while. SEA exchange rate changes have also made a difference recently for the US market, but I think this will be
tempered.

Reminds me of changing the mix of goods in the basket used to
compute cost of living increases.
