the money was made on the short side - he even mentioned this in the 10:00 AM notice

I think that when he says this trade is for experienced daytraders only he's in effect saying that if you don't know the pattern of this trade in advance then you shouldn't be in it. the pattern is a run too fast to get on unless you're placing market orders (this is what the inexperienced do in haste), in which case you get bought in too high; then it dumps back to within 1/2 - 1 point of where it started the run - it will then remain in that range the rest of the day.

I scalped 1/8 on IQIQ. It was already 9 5/8s when I got the EM. Started not to play at all, but was hoping for second surge to take it back up. We have to get TM's email situation straight. I have 128KB frame relay and a business-only ISP (Digex). None of my customer's e-mails take over 10-20 seconds to get here from all over US and Canada. TMs got here at 10:04. Four minutes is too late to make money on this type of play.
