Serge -- Accountability is the issue. However it's done --- whether requiring real names or having them on record. Turning to the conference call with IXC and NYSNNet, NN got some fantastic press. There were several segments in the Q&A where the company was praised for its contributions to the network. "The three vendors involved, CSCO, NN, and NT, provided best of breed and allowed new understanding of real life interaction between Level 2 and Level 3. . . . Without [them] we wouldn't be here." Referring to NN's IP over ATM switches, Tim Lance from NYSNNet said they reflected the complexity of the different needs for bandwidth. "There is tremendous throughput from NN," he said. Someone asked how their network would attach to the existing Internet, and was told through BBN in NYC on IXC, using public peering plus 10 private peering points. "Voice will use IXC expertise." When asked about Europe, he was told they are moving to facilities-based networkand are working with TeleNor today, with plans to expand. Once more he said, "Gemini200 is a major breakthrough in Internet backboning. The three vendors making it possible are Newbridge, Cisco and Nortel." Earlier in the call someone explained that Gemini2000 is the only coast-to-coast IP network up and running today. Erik Kreifeldt from Fiber Optics Online asked several questions about backbone architecture and no doubt will be publishing something on that website later today. Sorry to be so choppy --- I'm running through my notes backwards. :) I'll post anything that comes out from the publications asking questions. Incidentally, this is not the same network IXC announced earlier this year. "Same fiber route but not the same cable." Pat
