Scumbria - Re: " Since the summer of 1997, an investment in INTC is slightly better than an interest bearing checking account. "

Since the summer of 1997, an investment in Cyrix will have netted you a LOSS OF ((30 - 0.82*14.5)) = 18.11/share, or a 60% LOSS OF CAPITAL.

Since the summer of 1997, an investment in AMD will have netted you a loss of ($41 - 29.5) = $1.5 LOSS/SHARE = 28% LOSS of CAPITAL.

Which proves your point - Intel was comparativeley a GREAT INVESTMENT - it PRESERVED YOUR capital and returned a PREMIUM for that investment.

Scumbria,

In the mean time, Congress appears intent on putting us all through a lot of pain.

Actually, Congress will be tied up for a while, which will reduce the chance of them putting us through any pain.

In other words, when Congress is "doing it's job", watch your wallet.
