Re: Attracting Computer Illiterates

In a post the other day I proposed that a large ISP offer the iMac as part of their sign up package. Well, today Earthlink called me.

Actually it was a solicitation, since I had used Earthlink before. I had cancelled the account on moving to this remote lake in Texas where ELNK has no POPs.

The lady wanted to offer me a special deal to come back to Earthlink. [ELNK investors take note!] I could get a free 56K modem if I came back. Without trying to explain that if I was a previous Earthlink subscriber I must necessarily already have a modem, I explained the lack of POPs in my area. She listened politely, but the girl seemed to take quite an interest when I asked her to pass a message along to management. I told her that if they really wanted to attract millions of new subscribers, they should offer an iMac as part of their signup for $49 a month for the first 36 months, then going down to $19.95 a month. She promised that they would hear about it.

Right! - ; ^ )

On-line etch-a-sketch -- ask and receive!

etch-a-sketch.com

Looks like the Javascript source code is available for hacking to your web interface! Go nuts!

By the way, I'm using a new web browser, Opera3.50 for Win/NT as I post.It takes up about a meg of memory, and appears to be "ok." A little clunky, but seems to be very snappy for page loading. It did NOT like the etch-a-sketch script, though. It is sort of like CyberDog in it's interface. (woof)

It's from a little Euro company- maybe someday they'll port to mac.
