Shares of Mercantile Bancorporation Inc. (MTL) was rumored throughout the day as a persistent takeover candidate with Bank One Corp. (ONE) the suitor.....Shares of Safety Components Int'l (ABAG) was rumored as a takeover with a major auto company possibly looking to acquire them.....Rumors of a three for one split in IBM Corp. (IBM) helped lift the shares higher in ...Takeover talk once again was being rumored in the shares of Paxson communications Corp. (PAX).....In the oil Sector rumors that Pennzoil Co.(PZL) was possibly shopping itself around.....Finally, a long time ago we kept reporting takeover rumors in Telxon Corp. (TLXN) and also reported the company was shopping around for a much higher bid than they initially received from Symbol Technologies (SBL).
