Something's definitely wrong w/ that picture.

SAR chief executive to blame?

Could be. Dr. Doom doesn't appear to have any faith at all in the current government.

Tung to be gone, shortly?

Something to think about...

Is it part of a "done deal" that Beijing stands firm on the renminbi in order to receive an offshore bail-out in about a year's time? See prior post and China's None-Too Rosy Future.

Read an article not long ago that seemed certain the PRC is in the pre-qual phase (my term) for an international bailout. If I happen onto it again, I'll post the source here. Can't remember right now.

I wouldn't doubt it a bit. The cozy little talks that went on in the Netherlands about six months ago, that were for me so reassuring, now seem to me a little too cozy.

All the communist rhetoric aside, some of which I myself believe does not originate in Zhongnanhai, it appears Beijing is prepared to play ball with the world's central banks and international financial liaisons. I, therefor, could be very wide of the mark in expecting a yuan devaluation around Chinese New Year.

However, Chinese New Year might not be a bad time for Tung to retire. In fact, the timing may be perfect.

Saw Zhu Rongji on cable tv while visiting over Thanksgiving. He appeared fairly spry to me. So much for earlier reports of poor health. Probably just tired as heck.

Of course, those I was visiting were confused over why I appeared so interested in seeing or hearing Mr. Zhu.

Ho-hum. Huh? <VBG>
