Mohan, optimism is a good thing, but I think that
Rajeev (another IITian, BTW), is a little blinded
by his love for Kerala. The Trivandrum Technopark
is not going anywhere and Kerala doesn't have a
leader with the vision of Naidu.

"There may yet be hope" is the best that can be said.

I hope Kerala does become the California of India. People are looking for places to move to.

Further to our discussions re: Extortion, I have a friend who just cam back from Inida. he was in the Taj having Coffee and sandwiches after which he was presented with a bill of Rs. 10,000. When he inquired he was pointed to a person aon anothe rtable and told that he had asked his bill be added to my friends.

Of course he had no idea whether there would be any action if he did not give in to the extortion but was not willing to risk his life for Rs. 10,000.

Later he found out that they have now targeted Non-Residents whom they can either pick out of a crowd or they follow them from the airport.

In eitehr case, people are now afraid to have NRI's visiiting them.

The article you posted did state that these extortionists just present a bill and you are required to pay for fear of your life.

Is there any way we can warn NRI's and also put some pressure on the embassies here and around the world for the Govt. to take action. I am afraid we will other wise turn into another Russia which is being controlled completely by the Mafia.

And we would be afraid of visiting our families.

Of course right now its the major cities. But once they taste money and power, they will not stop.

They must be nipped in th ebud.

Any suggestions or discussions would be appreciated.
