4th Quarter and 1st Quarter Outlook

Amat will most probably have had greater than expected revenues in the 4th quarter when they report and a growing backlog of orders showing up in the 4th and 1st quarters of next year. This will bode well for the company going forward in the short-term.

Any near-term weakness in the stock price will most probably be attributed to the proceedings currently going on in the House and any future proceedings which may or may not go on in the Senate.

The stock is a buy. Most on this thread try to make a profit nibbling at the margins of the small price movements in Amat. My opinion is that unless you are a floor trader it is probably not a very profitable strategy. A lot of people here analyze use technical analysis-pencil marks on construction paper in my opinion-instead of examining the fundamentals. I think most would have greater success buying and holding for the upturn in the semiconductor industry which very well may come in the 1st half of 1999 instead of having their profits or losses aggravated by the commission costs they incur trading short-term.
