MARKET NEWS: U.S. stocks slid on Monday as investors braced for
the potential impeachment of President Clinton, with shares of
high-flying technology companies posting some of the market's
sharpest losses. The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended down
126.16 points, or 1.43%, at 8695.60, its worst closing level in
about six weeks. Technology companies posted some of the market's
worst losses, with the tech-heavy Nasdaq Composite Index shedding
62.45 points, or 3.08%, to 1966.86. The S&P 500 Index, a broader
market gauge, ended down 25.26 points, or 2.17%, at 1141.20. The
Russell 2000 Index of small stocks was off 7.43 points, or 1.88%,
at 387.94. The U.S. bond market benefited Monday from the flight
out stocks, with the benchmark 30-year treasury bond ending up
