I agree with you wholeheartedly that pyramid schemes should be and are illegal. But a corporate relationship with different entities with some common ownership that do business with each other is legit in my mind. It may make for deceptive results, but as long as it is disclosed that a large amount of revenues are generated from a large stockholder whose interests in a company are served by that company's share price increasing, then I see nothing wrong here. If certain investors are duped into thinking that such revenues from such a source can continue to increase exponentially, that is their call. As long as such information is not covered up, I see no sin and would prefer that government agencies keep their nose out.

But it is interesting how Softbank can pump a few million into Yahoo's advertising revenues and see a resultant multi-billion increase in the market cap. If the investing public does not see this, then it is their loss should the "pyramid" collapse.
