The Republican Party is not too unusual. It is like most of us. We do not learn in advance of crises. Take our energy situation. We still import oil. Are we nuts? The Republicans cannot change because they still do not perceive any crises or raison d'etre for change. Why would they? by the time they perceive the need for change, the "change" will have already occurred. It happened to the Whig Party and it has already happened to the GOP. And I take no solace in viewing the destruction of the two party system in the United States. It worked pretty well for two centuries.
