Slow performance dogs biggest online brokers

Online brokerage sites operated by E-Trade Group and Charles Schwab ranked last among 20 in an
analysis of e-brokers' availability and online performance. E-Trade had an average success rate
downloading all the content of 92.8 percent, and Schwab scored 97 percent, according to a report by
Keynote Systems. E-Trade delivered its home page, on average, in 13 seconds, while Schwab took 27
seconds during the period measured, last week. Top-performing brokers on the Net were Web Street and
Waterhouse, which delivered their pages in about three seconds, and were accessible more than 99.5
percent of the times tested. Keynote said it will monitor the 20 largest online brokerage firms and publish
the daily and weekly results on its Web site (http://www.keynote.com/measures/brokers).
