Ok, I know you have all been hanging in there waiting for my comments :) 1) For all you who gave me a hard time about selling last week---nuff said. Got lucky. First time ever! 2) Did anyone else get their ass KICKED today? Holy cow...across the damned board.... 3) I'll take credit for calling this one...sure, it was 6-8 months ago, but I really did think STBI and TDFX were going to wed. 4) As for selling part of my TDFX last week...looks like I've more than made up for it with my STBI holdings. Way long TDFX...again. Now, as we have already seen, the gloves are off. Our problem is that our wealthy and powerful once partner, CREAF, WILL buy nVidia...forget about the IPO. It is a done deal in my mind. CREAF has NO CHOICE but to do so. DIMD will of course be in the bidding war, but won't have a chance. DIMD's days are truly numbered. Perhaps they will get with S3 and drift off into the sunset together...I see this as a distinct possibility since the Savage was actually a good chip. If they can get by the marketing problem of an 8mb board and crank up the clock (both of which their next chip will do), then they have a competitive product. DIMD sells it as a "Monster 3DIII" and many will be fooled. Bundle it with a MX300 and you have a competitve gaming upgrade...still, I think DIMD is heading out... Intel, once a real threat to the graphics bus, is now a non-player. They don't even want to mess around with med-high end graphics, IMHO. So the real question here is this: will STBI maintain its leadership as a third party board maker/seller to leading OEMs? Can their retail presence be truly exploited (is it truly significant)? Will STBI run on its own as a wholly owned subsidiary? Management remaining? What about the nVidia stock? What about CREAF's stock in TDFX? Lots of uncertainty. Now, I don't see much mention of this, but did anybody happen to notice STBI's quarter? Not only did it suck, but the only bright spot was the TNT...that said, I believe this is the ONLY way for us to go- vertical. I bought more STBI today (and promptly took a 7% hit), as I like the deal, but if CREAF was interested in us (and I truly believe they were), why the hell didn't we go for it. I don't like having them as a competitor, especially at retail. Will try to do the math soon... Somebody mentioned CREAF falling more points than TDFX...what do you know that I don't? CREAF fell fractionally as far as I can tell.
