Santiago, He is not lying to protect his wife and daughter. He is lying to protect his ego from the damage of the truth. The seeds of the damage were planted by his own betrayal. Honesty is not a destroyer but a healer. Clinton denies everyone healing by his refusal to own up. Remorse or regret without honesty is simply sorrow at getting caught, and it is impossible to extend trust to one in this state. He is not protecting his family or the country by his continued denial of a truth which everyone knows, he is delaying healing. Darrin
