3Dfx/STBI or just 3Dfx?

Now, crucial to the success of this eneavor is Retail ($) sales. Will TDFX use their own name or STBI's?

AGN3D: Are you going to use the STB name, or did you buy them for their existing distribution network?

Scott: The 3Dfx name certainly will be the corporate name,
and with time will be the brand name that is propagated
through the retail segment. STB does have some brand
name recognition in certain segments that are currently not
focused on by our products. Professional segment for
example and some more business orientated markets. So
the STB brand name may continue to exist in some of those
new markets for 3Dfx, but for the core 3Dfx products 3Dfx is
going to be the brand really propagating.

someone asked the question - does STB make motherboards? I don't think so. They mention nothing on their website (either current and/or product list) about making a motherboard. But it shouldn't make a difference. Supposedly 3Dfx has done a reference motherboard (shown at comdex) so it should be cake to either gear up to produce them or go to a 3rd party.

As for retail sales in the coming quarters, i have this bad feeling that 3Dfx will probably be raped. Voodoo3 3000, whatever. They'll be too busy trying to score OEM wins (V3 2000). Even though STB has good OEM relationships, that doesn't mean that the OEMs will go for V3. There the ever present OEM monster ATI (rage fury) and Creative (TNT Vanta) probably has a pretty good OEM service department now (courtesy of Banshee). Plus they'll have all that marketing muscle of Creative/Diamond working against them (TNT2). Damn this stock is a sadomasochistic's dream! i love it! (ouch!) i love it! (ouch!) etc. etc. i know, i know. don't get too emotional about a stock, but sometimes it can't be helped. just my .02...
