The good news is that the OpenGL beta ICD is looking good, according to GMB...50% faster than previous...so they are working on that area. The bad news is that TNT and Savage are faster, and that i740 is just a nudge behind us...guessing that there are some big textures in Q3...

So, will the faster ICD mean current games will run faster, or will the minigl still be faster, though with a smaller supported feature set?

Yes, nobody has ever been bored while owning TDFX...or (in my case) ever had much sleep...

Jeff, glad to hear your 3Dfx and STBI trades worked out so well
for you. That's what it's about.

Most immediately I am needing to figure out how dilutive this is going
to be on our shares, and what the deal means looking forward...

but quick impressions are that I am cautiously optimistic at this point, i.e. the deal with STBI. One of my past complaints on this
board was that we needed to take out some of the competition by
buying someone out. This addresses the issue, changes the game,
should help the OEM's believe that 3Dfx can deliver, leaves
NVidia needing an IPO and board integrator (putting them in
the defensive, and not in control of their destiny at this point).

Can someone start a new tally of questions to 3Dfx, here are my
concerns,

I find it hard to believe Creative didn't know about this,
and so an official press announcement from Creative is needed at
this time, otherwise a lot of the statements on this board about
Creative are too speculative for my blood. Although there has
been a vacuum created by this move, which tends to push for
more consolidation in this industry, which is clearly good.

First question,
1. 3Dfx implied their OEM parts will be thru STBI, does this
mean that Creative and 3Dfx will not continue their past relationships on retail parts? Similarly Dimd? I'd like to
see Rampage clearly given to Creative, and Dimd, as if it is
a high margin product then it doesn't need the vertical integration
of the STBI deal. Correct?

2. Will STBI continue to build and sell the TNT boards as long as they are profitable? Since initial NRE costs have been paid by STBI it clearly seems in our best interest, if the boards are profitable.
Now the little quarter surprise of STBI seems to imply the TNT
business is not profitable, but I have been unable to find data
to support this assumption. Anyone?

3. What relationship does STBI now have with Dell, and has 3Dfx
approached Dell about continuing that business.

4. Are there strategic advantages of STBI's location (Richardson?)
in terms of ongoing work with other partners of 3Dfx? If so, is
the purported move of headquarters only officers or entire staff?

Options, to VincentTH:
Didn't really have time to look at those when all this hit today,
but agree with your assessment that the STBI shares look like a
good discount to 3Dfx shares, and cautiously picking them up here,
as other on this board (thanks to Jeff for all his past comments
on 3Dfx/STBI possibilities for the heads up!)

With the closing price of STBI at $7 3/16 being $11.05 in 3Dfx,
with all the experience from watching my long term shares, I can't resist some good position trading at levels under $13. Geez... $11. But personally would look for options beyond this quarters earnings and out beyond this market weakness: yes, May sounds good here. But
for $7 am more likely to continue to buy STBI shares if the market
looks to strengthen.
