Jeff,

1) I wouldn't know about Diamond since I have two STB Voodoo2's in SLI and they work perfectly. When I went to CompUsa last August to get them the salesguy told me Diamond was best because the drivers were more finely tuned and they were using SGRAM instead of EDO RAM. In his words STB wasn't as good as Diamond but better than Creative. When I asked how much better his answer was not anything you'd notice VISUALLY, but better in benchmarks. At that time STB had a $100 rebate, so paying $400 vs $600 was attractive enough not to matter to me. I did have some problems getting Quake to run, but fixed that by pulling the drivers out of HexenII, also from ID.

2) I think it's both. STB has had a long running relationship with DELL which I assume is based on not only board performance but also company reliability. STB also ranks consistently in the top 5, if not #1, in PC mag comparisons, but these things can be a bit subjective depending on how testings are conducted. DELL tries to get it's hands on the best parts it can, and TNT was it this season. If 3Dfx wants to keep it's STB DELL contracts it better be on the ball with Banshee2.
