Mexican cdmaOne Activity Heating Up, CDG Says

CDMA Development Group

Summary:

8:39:05 AM 12/15/98 According to the CDMA Development Group, cdmaOne technology now is being used in all nine Mexican telecom regions, and all major markets are
being served. All major carriers have adopted cdmaOne, the group says, including GRUPO IUSACELL, Movitel, Norcel, CEDETEL and SPC. Perry LaForge, executive
director of the CDG, says, "It is no surprise that cdmaOne has significantly expanded throughout Mexico given its dominate position in North America, and growing
presence in South America. In North America there are more than five million cdmaOne subscribers, and in South America, we expect to see similar subscriber growth with
significant success in 1999. In fact, there are already cdmaOne deployments in key markets including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Venezuela." Further information
available via RoboReply.

COSTA MESA, Calif., Dec.15, 1998 - The CDMA Development Group (CDG) today announced that cdmaOne activity has significantly increased in Mexico. cdmaOne is
now deployed in all nine of Mexico's telecommunications regions, reaching the country's major growth markets including Mexico City, Baja California, Monterrey,
Guadalajara and Tijuana. cdmaOne has been adopted by the country's leading operators including GRUPO IUSACELL, Movitel, Norcel, CEDETEL and SPC.

"We look forward to the continued adoption of cdmaOne by Mexico's leading wireless manufacturers and operators, especially given that the country's telecommunications
market has the potential to reach up to 100 million subscribers," said Perry LaForge, executive director of the CDG. "Mexico also has the world's largest roaming border,
which will allow cdmaOne subscribers to seamlessly roam throughout the entire continent."

"It is no surprise that cdmaOne has significantly expanded throughout Mexico given its dominate position in North America, and growing presence in South America. In
North America there are more than five million cdmaOne subscribers, and in South America, we expect to see similar subscriber growth with significant success in 1999,"
continued LaForge. "In fact, there are already cdmaOne deployments in key markets including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru and Venezuela.

LaForge concluded, "In addition, it is clear to see that cdmaOne is the most appropriate technology for the Mexico's WLL applications as cdmaOne is the best technology
for rural and suburban areas. At the current growth rate, cdmaOne is definitely on the fast track for success in 1999."

The CDMA Development Group (CDG) is a nonprofit trade association formed to foster the worldwide development, implementation and use of cdmaOne. The 100 member
companies of the CDG included many of the world's largest wireless operators and equipment manufacturers. The primary activities of the CDG include development of
cdmaOne features and service, public relations, education and seminars, regulatory affairs and international support. Currently there are more than 500 individuals working
within various CDG subcommittees on cdmaOne-related matters. For more information about the CDG, contact Christine Bock of the CDG News Bureau at 714/540-1030,

Tero, "Just how deep is this Frezza trauma anyway? It's like he's part of the collective unconsciousness of this thread, some kind of mythical arch demon... Jung would have a field day here."

That's 'collective subconscious'. Also, companies are 'startup' companies, not 'upstart' companies. You had referred to an upstart company and I saw elsewhere a journalist inadvertently, with no irony, referring to an 'upstart' company. It must be a change in language. QUALCOMM was accused of being an upstart company by the entrenched industry interests. But that was back when Q! was a startup company.

Not too many are treating Q! like an upstart now.

Frezza looms large because he had some credibility in the industry, made a big issue of Q! and set up a 'discussion' forum to berate Q! Also, the old Yin and Yang, Good and Evil, seems to be needed to get traction. It's no fun sitting round patting each other on the back. Hence we cast you as the current villain of the piece. Rajala wasn't suitable as he was too narrowly a WLL demon. Raymond tries. chuckj - well, we can't dignify chuckj efforts. We need meaty opponents.

Now that you have your own "Anti-Q!" url, you must expect picadores, and the whole panoply of the bullfight to array around you. Look at the publicity it gets your Global Teroist Brand.

Mqurice

PS: What about this orthogonally concatenated Reed-Solomon convolutional photonic wave function coding the VW40 crowd are trying on? Turbo is the way to go. Where's SurferM when you need some dinkum MIT expertise.

Just because we are paranoid doesn't mean that someone isn't after us!!!
Paranoids survive, its one of those survival traits. I have followed "de Q" for many years and I can tell you there is good reason why we are the way we are.
I enjoyed your article, sorry it upset you so. I am sure there was no evil intent.
