Quantum3D is , and possibly Guillemot and others are still supported by 3dfx. Not sure about Metabyte. I get the feeling that this is something personal between 3dfx, and DIMD/CREAF. Perhaps some behind the scenes arm twisting/TNT hyping has finally led to this decision.

I think it's about time 3dfx bought STBI (DIMD would have been my other choice). For better ,or worse, 3dfx will now succeed/fail on their own merits. And if they succeed, we will reap all the rewards (the converse, is of course, also true).

I doubt 3dfx is burning the bridges with CREAF by choice. There must have been a reason for this decision. Perhaps Creative was trying to arm twist 3dfx out of buying STBI, or maybe they weren't willing to negotiate fair terms. Perhaps time will tell, but I think this move was necessary, and will help us long term.

If I were 3dfx, I'd consider adding one other company to list, but it remains to be seen if they take that course.

I agree. This is definately a TDFX power-play. TDFX has often stated that they wanted to be more than just a 3D chip maker and they have made their move. If it works it will be very good, in my opinion. However, now they will have to be on their toes as Diamond et al will move to protect themselves.

Whereas TDFX has all their eggs in one basket, both Diamond & Creative are much more than just video card makers. Example, apart from my 2 Guillemot V2s, I own 2 Diamond modems & a Creative sound card so even though TDFX got the first shot off, they seem to be the most exposed here. Hopefully they will have AMD on their side.

Do you suppose STBI share price will be indexed to TDFX?
