Committee

Kumar Malavalli Named as Chairman of NCITS Standards Committee T11 as BROCADE Furthers Open
Standards Development

SAN JOSE, Calif., Dec. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- BROCADE(R) Communications Systems, Inc., the leading supplier
of Fibre Channel Fabric switches for Storage Area Networking (SAN) announced today that Kumar Malavalli, Vice
President of Technology at BROCADE, has been named chairman of one of the most influential standards
committees for Fibre Channel technology. Appointed on December 1, 1998, Mr. Malavalli chairs the Technical
Committee T11, part of the National Committee for Information Technology Standards (NCITS).

The T11 committee is responsible for standards development for interfaces and topology which are crucial to
high-performance connectivity in scalable Storage Area Networks. T11 produces interface standards for IPI
(Intelligent Peripheral Interfaces), HIPPI (High Performance Parallel Interface) and FC (Fibre Channel)
technology. T11 is part of NCITS, whose mission is to produce market-driven, voluntary consensus standards in
the areas of multimedia, intercommunication among computing devices and information systems, storage
media, databases, security and programming languages.
