It seems that if you are developing 3D gaming software, then Nvidia has suddenly become a big unknown factor. As a developer, I would think you wouldn't put your hopes on cards with Nvidia chips.

Most people on this thread know more about this than I do. Please post your opinions. Thanks.

Mike

I agree with everything you said, except the vindictive part. To begin with there are law and law suits to prevent nVidia from such actions. In addition, given that 3Dfx via STB has a good chunk of equity in nVidia, I think Creative would rather want to be nice to 3Dfx for now, *if* they want to gain a controlling interest in nVidia.

Having said that, the risks have considerably increased, as have the potential rewards. I still don't know enough to evaluate the situation, and unless I get a clear picture within the next week or so, I'm closing my remaining TDFX positions.

BTW, STB invested $3 mill. in nVidia, as did Creative. Does anyone know what percentage of equity in nVidia the 3 million represents?

re:"Toward the end of the quarter we MAY see some Voodoo3 shipments but probably not enough to maintain current estimates."

Or maybe V3 is ready to go by the beginning of next quarter and STB/3DFX fills the Banshee OEM chain with V3 at the same price but at a higher performance point.

Will companies like Diamond and Creative Labs now view 3DFX as a competitor in card products, rather than as a non-competing supplier of 3D graphics chips, now that 3DFX is buying STB ?

If so, Diamond, Creative, and similar card makers might reduce their purchases of 3DFX chips.

Its the end of the quarter for 3Dfx so it has already shipped plenty of Banshee chips and feels confident in making its quarterly number EVEN IF Creative and Diamond halt all orders for the rest of the quarter ( which I expect they will do).

Why would they do that? If there is demand for the product why not sell it, or lose the demand to other OEMs. Its like cutting off your nose to spite your face, IMO Until they are able to adjust to different product lines I see no other alternative.
