tech fool, The traditional link between winter and rising gas prices has largely dissipated IMO. That is because the transportation, storage, and sales functions in natural gas, once owned by the same companies, have now been largely de- linked.

Thus storage companies act market rational and try to buy their natural gas supplies during the summer months when prices traditionally are lower. The end result of this buying pattern is that summer prices now are higher for natural gas while winter prices are lower than what they were 10 years ago- i.e., the price curve for natural gas has flattened out much more and seasonal price changes are much less apparent.

So nowadays natural gas prices tend to fluctuate primarily upon supply and demand concerns only...
