ZO, Pat, MM, et al.,

Most of the large Telco's maintain multiple packet networks. You are well aware of AT&T's 3 separate ATM-based networks - Cisco for legacy frame relay, Ascend for ATM and IP, NN for managed private networks. MCI WorldCom is even more confusing. Essentially, Ascend has the WorldCom legacy frame network and a new network for the MCI legacy frame traffic. Cisco has an ATM overlay at WorldCom which is being extended to cover MCI customers for native mode ATM services (MCI had a legacy NN network that is being replaced AFIK) There is expected to be an award within the next 12 months for an ATM multiservices core network, which will aggregate the traffic from the FR and ATM edge networks and extend to global reach. There is no clear favorite today, as multiple constituencies have strong opposing preferences.

So, to answer the question, No, this contract does not displace Ascend and Yes, ascend will see significant revenue from the MCI migration to Ascend equipment. Also, for Pat, the BSTDX 9000 DS3 card is shipping but in limited quantities due to a chip supplier bottleneck. Supposed to be able to fill all demand in Q1, but undoubtedly there are PO'd customers who were expecting it in October. Got a call in to get more detail.
