has he completely underestimated unit growth of desktops by Dell
There may be a factor which leads to lower growth of the desktops systems. Many large companies, I know I have seen stories about Boeing, are no longer buying desktops. They buy laptops and docking stations so that people can move their work around with them. It may well be that any decline in desktops is matched by a higher margined increase in laptop sales.

Chuzzlewit, thanks for going over the numbers. Since the Kumar warning, I've been wondering how good his projections were. Nice to see Dell is still beating the industry. Unfortunately, as jhg in kc said, it appears the unit volume growth of 7.6% has been accepted as reality. Maybe that'll work in our favor at the next earnings.
