Derrick, Here's a little piece from Best Buy that I thought you guys would like to see....

''Strong sales of technology products, such as DVD, DBS, digital cameras and cellular telephones, as well as entertainment software, contributed to our record sales and earnings,'' Schulze said. ''Increased efficiencies year-over-year have allowed us to improve product in-stock and inventory turns to capitalize on these sales trends. Consumer confidence combined with hot technology products and great deals kicked off what should be a strong
holiday season at Best Buy.''

Sincerely,

Doug F.

I believe it was nearly two years ago that Sim bought those shares. Maybe that's why he wants that $10 million tax-free dividend windfall, to pay off some of that loan.

But the question now is why should the earnings release help the stock? If they were having a strong quarter, why wouldn't they have bought all they could? The fact that they have been very timid says that the quarter isn't all that great. That is the message the market is getting. And if they are having a good quarter, what would be the purpose of not buying more and sending the wrong message? Are they trying to deceive the Street? Why are they still sitting on all that cash? What do they need it for?

Because they have been so timid, the stock has made no gain at all during the buy back. The company's market value has actually dropped. All that money that they paid to pick up whatever shares they did has essentially evaporated. And they have gained no extra value in their shares to use for any stock swap deals. It is truly pathetic.
