Check with your accountant, brokerage or BNEZ. My guess would be yes.
You were a shareholder on record when the dividend was to be paid on 7/31/98. Selling pre-split shares or higher priced shares is a great strategy to offset gains. If you don't have gains you can only write-off $3,000 in losses and roll the rest over to the next tax year. Just remember if you want to write-off the loss you can't buy any BNEZ for 31 days.
