As impeachment votes mount, White House mulls potential options

MSNBC STAFF AND WIRE

WASHINGTON, Dec. 15 — President Clinton's chances of escaping impeachment dimmed Tuesday, and an air of defeat descended on the White House. As the number of moderate Republicans who declared support for impeachment grew, some White House advisers became so desperate that aides told NBC the president would consider paying a seven-figure fine and acknowledge he made false statements under oath to escape a trial before the Senate.

Hi MMV (Mohan) I've missed you since we were about the sole two opposing Michael. I must confess I gave up...quit...on MU, at a loss, but got well on other stuff. As to the President, I was actually telephoned on an NBC-Wall Street Journal poll about 8-10 weeks ago, and among fifty questions, one was "Do you think President Clinton is doing a good job?" On a scale of one hundred, zero to fifty being bad, I answered "Yes" meaning about fifty-one to fifty-five, a clear flunk in any school. Then I watched the media tell me that 2/3rds of the public answered that question "Yes" and therefore he has the support of the public. Why didn't they ask the question the way they were going to interpret it? He did not and does not have my support. His total life meaning, the essence of his being, is precisely summarized in the phrase that the Christian gospel attributes to John the Baptist: What did you go out to the desert to see, a reed shaken by the wind? In other words, no principles, only polls, for every choice. As if you could poll away principles. William Clinton learned his techniques well and then used all his skills to manipulate the media and the public to achieve and keep power. It is come-uppance time now. It's too bad he got away with so much disgrace to the Presidency, the White House, the Democratic Party, the Cabinet, the Judicial Branch, the Legislature, his family, the people of the U. S.. He is truly a "Serial Deceiver" whom we can never really believe, ever. Part of the problem will remain with us forever, i.e., the "I want what I want when I want it" faction in the Democratic Party uses arguments that contradict each other because they do not believe in integrity and consistency of thinking; if the polls favor something wrong or bad, it is the will of the people, even if it is destructive of the people as a whole. Then to win under that system, the Serial Deceiver rises up and says, "Want some candy, little girl?"
It's good to hear from you Mohan, hope all goes well for you.
