Nayan, you asked Mike not me, but if you don't mind an unsolicited opinion, I understand that Nokia and Qualcomm are beating Ericsson for technological reasons. (Also Motorola.)

Nayan, Wow, these guys made some completely uninspired choices. Intel in chips, Exxon in oil, AOL on the Internet. And I loved the comment from the internet analsyt that, "caution, this is not the value zone." <G> Just how stupid are his clients?

Ericsson and most cell phone cos. make me yawn. I feel that is yesterday's technology priced at today's valuation. Ericsson is still way overpriced on an absolute basis, but it may get a bounce after the first of the year. A long Ericsson, short Nokia trade might make some sense, as everyone loves Nokia.

I like Petroleum and Resources (PEO) in the energy area. It sells at a 10% discount to Net Asset Value and is a well-managed fund. For individual companies, I would look at Arco (ARC) as a takeover candidate with good finances, Schlumberger (SLB) as the creme de la creme of the drillers, and Plains Resources (PLX) as a much more speculative asset play.
