Actually, you guys have it backwards. Remember those "expert" witnesses the Dems assembled to lie about what they did with Nixon? Seems Holtzman, Drinan and Owens wanted a real coup d'etat in 1974:

The 'coup of '74'

Jerome Zeifman, a Democrat who was chief counsel to the
House Judiciary Committee during the Watergate investigation,
finds it ironic that Michigan Rep. John Conyers Jr. and other
Democrats are now accusing Republicans of an attempted
coup against President Clinton.
Some of those same Democrats attempted to derail Gerald
Ford's nomination to replace Spiro Agnew as vice president in
1973 in the hope that a Democrat would be in position to
succeed President Nixon, Mr. Zeifman said yesterday in a
letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Henry J. Hyde,
Illinois Republican, and Rep. Bob Barr, Georgia Republican.
"During the Ford confirmation proceedings, it was the
position of the Congressional Black Caucus, Father Robert
Drinan, Elizabeth Holtzman, and Wayne Owens that Ford
should not be confirmed and that Nixon should be impeached
-- which would have made [Democratic House Speaker] Carl
Albert president. This would have been the very type of 'coup'
that Conyers, Holtzman, Drinan and others are now falsely
charging against the Republicans," Mr. Zeifman said.
