Michael Dell Establishes Investment Firm With $1 Bln, WSJ Says

New York, Dec. 16 (Bloomberg) -- Dell Computer Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Michael S. Dell earlier this year set up a New York investment company with as much as $1 billion of his money to consolidate his investments and take stakes in other companies, the Wall Street Journal reported. The firm, MSD Capital LP, which has just two day-to-day managers, has already invested in at least 12 companies, including a logistics software company that supplies Dell factories, the paper said. Dell, who is the sole general partner of MSD, has been ''flooded with proposals,'' including a chance to help bail out troubled hedge fund Long-Term Capital Management LP, as his wealth grows, the paper said.

Dell sold 8 million company shares in November, boosting to more than $1 billion the value of shares sold by 33-year-old chief executive this year. (WSJ, 12/16, www.wsj.com) *--All newspaper citations refer to the Wall Street Journal
