And, a followup post, for clarification purposes only ... Below is Planet City's blurb on the software analysis portion of the MBCK, taken directly from a document in the "Lit Kit" delivered with the product. The document is titled "Product Information""... Finally, the Millennium Bug Compliance Kit can search your hard drive and compile a list of executable programs you have installed. It also identifies potentially non-compliant software and provides real solutions by way of the Commercial & Off The Shelf (COTS) database, which is a comprehensive report of which software applications are or are not Year 2000 compliant. Registered users of the Millennium Bug Compliance Kit have access to COTS, which provides information on how to make software applications compliant." The MBCK does "compile a list of executable programs you have installed". That is the file list of ".exe"s and ".com"s I mentioned. However, saying it "identifies potentially non-compliant software and provides real solutions by way of the Commercial & Off The Shelf (COTS) database" is pushing the envelope a bit. I'd agree if it said that "it provides a mechanism for identifying ...". It absolutely does NOT automatically identify non-compliant software. Also, saying "COTS, which provides information on how to make software applications compliant" is a bit of a stretch. COTS contains information that can link you to a product's vendor's website, which may or may not have Y2K compliancy instructions. COTS itself does not contain "information on how to make software applications compliant". A subtle verbiage difference, yes ... but a significant difference in value. Regards, TED
