Randy,

and the stream of consciousness and yesterday's big announcement by the Recording Industry carries me to Ampex's neighbor in Redwood,,,Liquid Audio, who, if you read their mission statement are wooing the musicians in the newly developing world of music distribution. To that end, you'll note the Liquid Audio Player has the Dolby name prominently displayed. Since the musician market is the big target for Liquid and since Ampex still has present day cache ---saw walls of Ampex Gold Master in a Sam Ashe store recently.....if I were Liquid Audio, I would want to feature the Ampex brand and their technology on my player and as a feature to my musician audience...just a thought...maybe somebody from each company will bump into each other at lunch someday....

We went through a lot of Zenith's. Besides giving a great picture, they would occasionally burst into flames. This could happen even when they were turned off. The company was aware of this "glitch" for years, and made private settlements rather than acknowledge or actually fix the problem. (Cheaper to do)

I was visiting a pal in LA back in 1976. At 3 AM I had to go to the John. I smelled smoke coming from my friend's room. I banged on his door ( a very deep sleeper), and saved his life. Yup. It was a Zenith. And it was turned off. Yes, it was another great random moment with a happy ending. I loved those Zeniths...Heck, I loved my Pinto too, another potential firebomb.
