I want to thank you in particular for your reason here. I too went away for awhile. I expected to see a retraction too...but as you say, YUCK!

<<Some conservatives earnestly believe that what Clinton has done merits an
impeachment.>>

Honestly, I'm sure it's not just "some" of them.
You see, it's the harm done to the other parties involved. Some are disgusted with the age of the intern and the acts- and some Democrats fall into this category of those in favor of impeachment. I don't see the sex as a reason to impeach. If a man is President, however, he CANNOT allow an American Citizen(one of his bosses), to be slandered by his own perjury, and expect to remain President- by his oath of office- NO WAY!

This IS an "overblown soap opera"- one created by a President protecting himself from his own petty faults. The Lewinsky testimony matches the modus operandi of the Jones charges. No STARR had knowledge of his adultery with Lewinsky prior to the fact of it. Clinton lied. Jones wouldn't have a penny from him today if he were not caught. Right?!! Of course.

His testimony denies to this day the truth of his perjury. 86% of Americans believe he perjured himself against Jones! Again, he simply DID harm one of his bosses- with planned, orchestrated perjury negatively affecting her life in the extreme(trailer park trash). He denies to this day his perjury and so any legal responsibility for admittedly thwarting Jones as best he could. "...the WHOLE truth..."...heavy sigh. Convicting Clinton in the Senate for these illegal actions simply wouldn't harm an undeserving soul now nor in the future. DEFINITELY impeachable.

Alec Baldwin needs to make a big contrite apology too. Maybe spend some time in jail for making terroristic threats:

Conan O'Brien: "Before we leave, I gotta ask you. It's no secret that you are very political. You are a very political person. It's no secret that you have actually had some associations with the Clintons. That you're a liberal man and I thought you know today, this is a historic day and you're one of the most politically active actors out there. What do you think?"

Alec Baldwin: "I was in Africa. I go to Africa. I mean ladies and gentlemen I am in Africa. For three months I am in the bush and I come back. I come back here and I come back to what? I mean what is happening right now as we speak? Right now the Judiciary Committee, the President has an approval rating of 68 percent. The President is very popular and things are going pretty good and they are voting to impeach the President. They voted on one article of impeachment already. And I come back from Africa to stained dresses and cigars and this and impeachment. I am thinking to myself in other countries they are laughing at us twenty four hours a day and I'm thinking to myself if we were in other countries, we would all right now, all of us together, [starts to shout] all of us together would go down to Washington and we would stone Henry Hyde to death! We would stone him to death! [crowd cheers] Wait! Shut up! Shut up! No shut up! I'm not finished. We would stone Henry Hyde to death and we would go to their homes and we'd kill their wives and their children. We would kill their families. [stands up screaming] What is happening in this country? What is happening? UGHHH UGHHH!!!!"

What indeed.

Henry Hyde responds:

"I heard about it, and I'm sickened by it," he said. No wonder. Hyde has been the recipient of a series of death threats ever since he became the point man in the effort to impeach Clinton. He is under constant armed guard. "You have someone like that, talking in those terms, about killing your family? To kill my family because you disagree with me? To laugh about that? There are people out there, sick people, who are just waiting for a push. Excuse me for not laughing. He wants my family stoned to death by a mob. Imagine if a Republican said such a thing. I don't find the humor in it."
