Sprint is offering the service free for a period of time; then it will cost. I think the website tells you the time period it is free and the charge per message.

Dave, the Sprint text messaging in SF Bay Area is a freebie at present and Sprint goes out of its way to emphasize that it's an experimental launch, not available in other areas (like Los Angeles which is roughly 10 times the size of SF). Suspect that once they're comfortable with it technically and have all the geeks hooked, the charges begin. [one Sprint guy told me that it would be "free" with the heavy user plans, but an add-on for the light weights].
On another topic: Nokia is running ads with an outfit called paragon software. For $60 you get a cable that plugs into the handset and with the paragon software you can drag and drop your contacts from Organizer, Outlook, ACT! right in to the cell phone directory. Seems a bit pricey to me (but I am the world's cheapest S.O.B. so probably no matter) BUT this is the right idea for sure. I have spent far too much time doing data entry on my brand new spiffy dan 2700. The Ericy folks seem to be commiting corporate sapuku quite nicely w/o any help from anybody. These Nokia dudes, on the other hand, really seem to have their stuff together. A great model for the Q to emulate, IMO. Surfer Mike
