Replacement of existing Cobol systems will only happen ever so slowly, if ever at all.

But if one were to have deep roots in the Cobol underpinnings, then that would give the best chance to pull out some of that Cobol processing logic and possibly transform it into Java.

But even if this sort of transformation were not possible, I sometimes wonder if a Cobol heritage might not result in Java tools that the Cobol skill set was comfortable with in order that those folks might then feel more comfortable in transforming their skills into Java.

On the flip side of the coin, the business model here might preclude getting into the Java tools business if that were seen by the OEM customers/partners (of whom there are very many) of the PVCS and Data Direct products as competition.
