While you wait for the expert answer, here's an interim one:

They did have oil shows higher up,(reported in various filings -including KOB's), but continued drilling towards the original primary target. This was also confirmed to me verbally by the boys at PYR. (they did the original geophysical work up on the prospect) So if the casing was damaged....
