(Nasdaq: XCIT) and Seattle FilmWorks (Nasdaq: FOTO) today announced an agreement to give Excite users free photo scanning and Web posting when they purchase film processing from Seattle FilmWorks. Saving the consumer the time and money it costs to scan photographs for the Web, the service is available immediately to Excite users. In addition to receiving their prints via the mail, when Excite users process their film through Seattle FilmWorks (SFW), their photos can also be digitally scanned and made available to them via the Web at no additional cost. Seattle FilmWorks provides mail order photofinishing and digital imaging services to more than 1.8 million customers annually. "Photos are one of the most popular parts of the online community experience," said Joe Kraus, senior vice-president and co-founder, Excite, Inc. "But putting photos online is usually an extra step and sometimes a scary one for those not too familiar with the Web. Now Excite users have access to an easy way of getting those photos online we're doing it for them with Seattle FilmWorks, scanning the photos for the consumer and providing a free and easy place to store them." "Since we introduced Pictures on Disk(TM) and PhotoMail(TM), our efforts to promote photo computing have focused on enabling customers to use the Web to share their photos with friends and family," said Gary Christophersen, CEO, Seattle FilmWorks, Inc. "Enabling our customers to share their photos in Excite's community service is an important step toward achieving this goal." Publish Photos Online With no Extra Work When consumers send in their film for processing by SFW, they can indicate that they would also like the photos in a digital format. For Excite users, SFW will scan the photos and archive them in a private area on the Web at no additional cost. Consumers will then be able to view their photos privately and can put them in an Excite Community photo album. Consumers can also learn through a simple process how to set up their own private or public Excite Community for their photos if they don't already have an Excite Community of their own.
