OT: Y2K warm up.

GPS satellites had a 1024 week 'timer' placed due to software size considerations. The 'timer' runs out Aug 99. Pre 1995 GPS receiver units are suspect on how they will react to the restart.

It will be a nice little wake up call. I suspect that there will be a number of people who wont even know they rely on GPS timers.

Jon - re : For example, a friend of mine is going to have $3,000 cash on hand just in case. There has got to be an investment implication of millions of people doing this.

Burglar alarm companies ?

To all - the January 1999 issue of Vanity Fair (which I received in today's mail) has an article about the year 2000 mess.
