I think the ultimate kicker to an AMZN type story is almost nothing can disappoint. Since so much of today's price is based on events (e.g. positive cash flow) far into the future, nothing today can reduce expectations. So, "earnings" (or more properly extent of loss) is all but disregarded. Ironically, investors will actually bid up AMZN if they "beat" the target #. Any current miss will be written off as needed investment for the massive future coming their way. There is, literally, almost no story that could impact AMZN negatively ...only positively. Short of finding out that the CEO has been hoarding Nazi gold for years, I wouldn't fight this out of control monster. It has become a simple supply/demand model that knows no bounds. I threw a few K of puts at this one at a 100/sh, didn't sell with a quick profit and subsequently lost entire nut w/in a week. I consider this VERY cheap tuition given that AMZN has surely ruined many disbelieving lives from 100-200, 200-300, and you fill in the blank 300-?.
